FINALLY A SEASON 3 PREMIERE DATE: Has Droughtlander Been That Difficult?

July 16, 2017

Big announcement this week the long-awaited “Voyager” season 3 will premiere on September 10th. This is almost a year and a half since season 2 premiered. It was a surprise to me, as the announcement was highly expected to be made, possibly along with another sneak peek, at San Diego Comic Con on July 21st where an Outlander panel will take place. Guests include the shows stars, Sam Heughan (Jamie), Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Tobias Menzies (Frank/Black Jack) along with Richard Rankin (Roger) and Sophie Skelton (Brianna). Joining them will be executive producers Ron D. Moore and Maril Davis, along with the author HERSELF, Diana Gabaldon.

Many of us have been struggling for over a year with what to do while waiting for “Voyager”. Some reread the books, others chatted on social media, speculating about everything, others like me attended Outlander related events with local fan groups as well as charity events featuring cast members. What honestly kept me going long after all those activities ended or became mundane was being involved with the trading cards. This is great fun and I will be blogging about my experience soon, as season two cards will be released in August.

I actually scheduled a trip to Scotland months ago thinking I might catch a glimpse of season 4, “Drums Of Autumn” being filmed. Of course, then we all found out that September would actually be the S3 premiere so now Scotland will be over-run with visiting Outlander fans who thought they also would get that opportunity as well. Pretty funny, if you contemplate it, but such is the precarious nature of trying to second guess what we don’t know. I certainly learned from this experience, never assume you know anything, even if you see a pattern, as fans did in the first two seasons premiering in April.

So now fans are hanging on every word coming from the Outlander camp. Little hints here and there from the cast themselves or from the writers. A few particularly skilled fans are playing detective scouring the internet for information about each episode. Who’s writing what, which cast members will appear, which storyline from the book will be portrayed and what will be added that will come directly from the creators minds themselves, that will be fresh and new to even book fans.

I myself sit in my office staring at my Outlander calendar which shows the month of July and the picture attached is of Jamie and Claire in France at Versailles, from season 2. I recall the last droughtlander when I was waiting for season 2 to premiere. That seemed ages ago and yet it came and went so quickly. Part of me is kind of glad that the wait took a little longer this time. I mean if it had premiered as the other two seasons did in April, droughlander would be in place once again and we’d all be awaiting for season 4.

I’m realizing now that the waiting is part of the experience. The fun of being on Twitter and Facebook, speculating, discussing, guessing as well as chatting with other Outlander fans is part of the Outlander experience. The friends we’ve made, the connections in all parts of the world we’ve created. People reaching out to help, some that are having difficulties in their lives, others celebrating momentous occasions, discussing family, our jobs and our personal lives. Even others chatting about non Outlander related content. Laughing, crying, smiling, sympathizing and empathizing with each other over social media, messaging or in person.

So the question I am posing to all you fans is, after much thought on this topic, Is droughtlander really that bad? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this after reading my blog. Maybe thinking, as I have done while writing this piece, you just might now have a different perspective.

Stay tuned here for future blogs and some surprises too. Thank you all for making my website launch a huge success. I’m humbled at the love I’ve received. I’d enjoy hearing from fans. Got something to say or contribute? Message me.
